Newsflash — Manhattan Beach Marriott now WestDrift

Newsflash–the Manhattan Beach Marriott is now under major construction.
The 30+ year old property is being remade into the Westdrift, with remodeling expected to be complete by January.
Drive up to the seven-story hotel, and you’ll see barricades in many places. The front lobby is roped off–you’ll need to enter from the left side, and the pool is now shut down to guests.
Folks at the front desk tell us the new look will more “upscale,” than the previous hotel, which originally opened as a Raddison in the 1990s.
Over the last 14 years, we have photographed many weddings and Bar/Bat Mitzvahs at the property, and while we will miss the old digs, we love that lots of money is being invested into the hotel.
According to the Daily Breeze, the hotel was recently sold for $78 million.
The resort sits on 26 city-owned acres at 1400 Parkview Ave. and while there be a new owner, it will still be part of the Marriott family, within the new “Autograph Collection.” The remodel is so new, there’s little information about it online.
We did find this message on the Manhattan Beach Marriott website:
“Hotel transformation July 7-December 31 2017 to give guests more space to stay/play. Main entrance and front desk temporarily relocated. Minimal disruption 8:30am-4:30pm Mon-Fri. Please Note – The hotel swimming pool will be closed for renovation July 24-December 31 2017. We apologize for the inconvenience.”
