Joshua Kalev, the new rabbi for Congregation Tikvat Jacob Beth Torah (CTJ) in Manhattan Beach, took over from Rabbi Mark Hyman on July 1.
“I am so excited to be back home,” Rabbi Kalev tells us. “This community is a big part of my home — to come back now in this capacity is absolutely a dream.”
Rabbi Kalev was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay area and studied in Los Angeles at the University of Judaism, now called American Jewish University.
While in school, Rabbi Kalev served as school Rabbi and teacher of middle school Rabbinics at Kadima Hebrew Academy in Woodland Hills, CA taught religious school at CTJ and met his Rabbinic School study partner and future wife, Rabbi Selilah Kalev.
Rabbi Kalev joined CTJ from Tiferet Bet Israel in Blue Bell, near Philadelphia.
