Manhattan Beach is the jewel of the South Bay, with several fantastic possibilities for weddings.
Many like to get wed on the beach itself (no permit needed if less than 50 guests) or one of several hotels for both ceremony and reception. The big three are Manhattan Beach Marriott, Belamar and the Shade. There's also Beaches, Verandas, the Ayers Hotel (actually in Hawthorne, but really close) and if you're feeling adventerous, the backlot of the Manhattan Beach Raleigh Studios, home base for Marvel studios, and the upcoming films "Iron Man 2" and "Thor."
A wedding at any of the big hotels in Manhattan Beach affords you the luxury to run down to the beach (like we did with Cynthia, Jack and their wedding party) for some quick shots on the sand, or the Pier. We're based in Manhattan Beach, and live a hop, skip and jump from the main wedding facilities. We've photographed at all of them--but here's our three favorites:
The Marriott is the largest choice, with weddings set against its large green golf course, and receptions inside in one of the Manhattan Beach Marriott's ballrooms.
Couples get married in the courtyard at the cozy Belamar, with receptions in one of two ballrooms.
The Shade also looks to the even smaller, but comfortable courtyard, with receptions in the hip Shade restaurant. The Shade is three blocks from the beach.
Or there's always the beach!
